Lerida is the largest city in western Catalonia. It lies halfway between Barcelona and Zaragoza, the River Segre. The city was home to many cultures over the centuries. Lerida was founded by Iberian, becoming the second century BC settlement in Romanian. During the Roman civil war here met the armies of Caesar and Pompey. Between 713 and 1117 the city was under Moorish management, and in 1149 was taken over by Ramon Berenguer IV. In the centuries following the destruction suffered repeated in various wars.

It is the largest city in western Catalonia with a population of 124,000 inhabitants.
