Vigo is the largest city in Galicia in northwestern Spain and also the largest fishing port in Europe. There is also the University of Vigo, originally a subsidiary of Santiago University, situated on a hill outside the city.
The modern city with boulevards and parks are located on the east side of the hill, and north-west, between hills and sea, is the historical center of Vigo, with very narrow and steep streets.
Vigo is located in the western part of the Ria de Vigo bay that penetrates about 30 km inland, the landscape of this being its main attraction.
