Salamanca is a city in Spain, the capital of the province with the same name in the autonomous community of Castilla and León.
It is one of the oldest university cities in Spain and also one of the major tourist attractions with many historic buildings.
Salamanca was founded in ancient Roman period as the Salamantica.
Between 133-712 BC became an important commercial center. By the seventh century was conquered by the Moors, led by Musa ibn Nusair (640-715), he was recaptured by Alfonso VI. (León) of Castile until the year 1085, when the city will be largely destroyed, being
a relatively long time uninhabited.
