Mar Menor (little sea) belongs to the other three municipalities: San Javier, Pedro del Pinatar and Cartagena and San largest saltwater lagoon in Europe.
Connected to the Mediterranean Sea adjacent multichannel Mar Menor covers an area of nearly 20 km² and that it is usually 2-4 degrees warmer than the Mediterranean, make it quite popular for sailing, windsurfing, kiteboarding and other water sports enthusiasts.
Beaches Los Alcazares holds blue flag awards in recognition of cleanliness and maintenance of beaches along the Mar Menor.
The prize is awarded annually by the Spanish Institute for Tourism.
