Maspalomas is the oldest tourist town in the south coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands and is part of the municipality of San Bartolomé.
Maspalomas is a place that you always meet on the first pages of guidelines on Gran Canaria tursitice. Therefore, the image shifting sand dunes of Maspalomas, a resort in southern island wide, you probably will impress in the memory before you see with your eyes.
Due to the relative closeness to Africa and fight the wind direction, the dunes were formed by the deposit of sand brought by the Sahara desert. Because in the past, companies building hotels have taken over areas of increasingly high even at the edge of the dunes, majestic sand piles have become, since 1987, a protected natural area.
Reminiscent of the Sahara dunes in the east are surrounded by hotels, following which starts another large resort - Playa del Inglés.
In the central area of the beach is a nudist section formally booked.
In the extreme west of the resort of Maspalomas is a beacon high.
If you go inland from the beach, you'll get to a protected area, with forests of palms, which was built around a golf course.
