Nerja is a coastal resort on the Costa del Sol - Spanish sun coast.
Although it is a destination dedicated to coastal tourism, Nerja has retained the look of a traditional locations. The town is located on a hill slope, the center being located in the old part of town that has remained almost nechimbata - narrow streets, wrought-iron balconies full of flowers and a seventeenth-century church. Otherwise tourist facilities are dominant, but hotels can not exceed a certain level of height.
Nerja is located at the mouth of the river Chillar, hence its name from - in Arabic "narixa" means "abundant spring". The most impressive place is the balcony of Europe - Europe balcony, a terrace outstanding in relief above the Mediterranean. From here you have superb views to the coast and mountains. Coastal area offers 16 km of fine sandy beach and various facilities for water sports. The most famous beach is Playa El Salon.
Nightlife in Nerja is focused around market street Calle Antonio Millon and Tutti Frutti. There are several bars and restaurants offering entertainment events throughout the summer. Perhaps the most spectacular tracts tourist caves at 3 km from downtown are older than 20,000 years and include archeological artifacts and prehistoric remains. One of these caverns has been transformed into a concert hall.
