Aristocratic old town, preserved until today Pontevedra Roman walls encircled the city at a time when the Romans called it Veteris Pontis - Old Bridge. On it was a busy port merchants, fishermen and sailors. In the eighteenth century Lérez River Delta was covered by silt and trade moved to the city of Vigo.
