Valencia is located on the east coast of Spain, on the right bank of the river Turia, 351 km south-east of Madrid and 361 km south-west of Barcelona. The third largest city in the country, Valencia is an important academic center, industrial, commercial and tourist center.
Set amongst orange trees and rice fields, Valencia has a reputation as a romantic destination, which can be justified if we look at the city's glorious past. Today, historical relics are hidden among modern buildings or monotonous. However, the hometown of writer Vicente Blasco Ibáñez has preserved its cultural values.
The town began as a Greek settlement, then reaching the hands of the Carthaginians. In the second century i.e.n. Romanian colony became Valentia, have followed the leadership of the Visigoth in 413 and the Moors in 714. After the fall of the Caliphate Cordoba, Valencia became an independent kingdom, was conquered in 1092 but almoravizi. Under the leadership of Muhammad ibn Said city became the capital of the Moorish kingdom, until 1238, when it was conquered by Jaime I of Aragon. During the Spanish Civil War Valencia was established republican government, the last stronghold that fell to Franco.
The historical center is very picturesque, with narrow streets and churches with blue domes and impressive new district wide boulevards lined by tall trees. Valencian nightlife is famous - bohemian bars and clubs are concentrated in the Carmen district, and student life unfolds in Blasco Ibáñez and Benimaclet areas for weekend nights are preferred Canovas and Joan Llorens.
Thanks to its favorable geographic position, Valencia can be visited both in the middle of winter when temperatures drop below 10 degrees, and summer when the sky is always blue and the Mediterranean Sea breezes maintain a pleasant temperature of 24 degrees.
