Guardamar del Segura is located on the south coast of Alicante province, between Torrevieja and Santa Pola.
There is some confusion about the origin of the city name. Some say that translated would mean "Guardian of the Sea," but a more likely theory is that it derives from the Arabic "Guald - Al - Amar" which means river of sand.
